Poems
Haiku is another way of writing about what we see around us. The following shows samples of haikus written about nature or and life. Thanks to Sir Azlison Bawang for the pictures as an inspiration.
Dew drop! A dew drop
A beautiful morning mist
Reflection of Life
Crawling in the dust
Fighting for an existence
A morning glory!
A brown in the green
Standing out amongst the rest
Enjoys life, the best!
Dusty and all brown
Chaotic, still alive
Thirsty for Order!
Moss covered cabin,
A sign of resignation.
That tranquil smile!
Few clicks of the camera can make us realize the meaning of life!
From a text, you are able to create another meaning from the words you see. You block out some words so that the meaning you want to bring stands out.
Being able to create a different meaning from book titles is fun and exciting. Enjoy!
- a form of poetry similar to a villanelle in that there are repeating lines throughout the poem.
- is it composed of quatrains; the second and fourth lines of each stanza as the first and third lines of the next.
- in the final stanza, lines one and three from the first stanza can be repeated, or new lines can be written.
- a four stanza pantoum is common although more may be used.
Here is an example:
Freedom
(Dedicated to SAF 44)
So, who can say our freedom is free?
It was paid with sacrifice and blood.
T’was never free, it will never be!
So, remember our heroes with glad.
It was paid with sacrifice and blood;
A precious life can never be paid.
So, remember our heroes with glad.
Our freedom is their legacy made.
A precious life can never be paid;
Tons of your gold will never suffice.
Our freedom is their legacy made.
It’s not the bounty; don’t be surprised.
Tons of your gold will never suffice
They fought with honor and gallantry
It’s not the bounty, don’t be surprised
They gave their all so we will be free.
They fought with honor and gallantry
T’was never free, it will never be!
They gave their all so we will be free,
So who can say our freedom is free?
